The idea for Fantastic Sams came in June, 1974 when a stylist named Sam Ross gave a little boy a unique shag haircut. His mother liked it so much that she asked Sam to give her the same look. After her hair was styled, she looked into the mirror and blurted out, "Fantastic Sam". Sam liked the sound of that. A short time later, he bought the salon from the owner for $10,000 and started the Fantastic Sams concept.
